East Brunswick Fire District # 1 is one of three fire districts that protect the Township of East Brunswick, New Jersey. Our response area is a total of ten square miles. The Department is currently made up of sixty volunteer members that respond out of three stations. We respond to all types of emergencies including but not limited to Structural Fires, Brush Fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, Extrications, Carbon Monoxide Alarms, Fire Alarms, Haz- Mats, and Water Rescues.

        On 03/23/2012 at 11:49 EBFD#1 was dispatched to 135 Donald Ct in Spotswood for a working structure fire.  Engine 702 responded along with Utility 716 and Assistant Chief Sommer to assist.  The fire was quickly brought under control and the crews were back in service at 12:56. 


 
Rescue 704 Refurb

Several months ago R704 was sent out to be refurbished at Rescue 1 in Manasquan NJ. The truck is being updated throughout with today's needs and technology in order to make the truck last as long as possible. The members recently went down for an inspection of the progress. The truck is now completed with paint work and ready for equipment mounting. We are expecting the truck back sometime in May.

On Saturday December 15th, The EBFD#1 will be giving Santa a ride through the district.  When you hear the sirens come outside to see Santa and special treats!


 
New Hurst Tools Put Into Service

On 10/20/2012 the members of EBFD#1 met at Civic Center station to test out the new Hurst Tools that were placed onto Rescue 704.

Car Fire on Williams Ct.

@ 12:58 Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched to Williams Ct. for a car fire.  Chief Booke (700) arrived confirming the report of a working car fire.  E701(Bassano) went in service with an 1 3/4" Handline upon arrival.  E702 (Prinzo) arrived shortly after and assisted with suppression.  Crews operated for just over 30 minutes before taking up.  The fire is under investigation by Dist. 1 Bureau of Fire Prevention.

Working Fire on Morgan Pl

@ 05:55Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched for a possible structure fire on Morgan Pl.  Dist. #3 Asst. Chief Kramer(950) was able to see heavy smoke coming from the area and requested the call be re dispatched for a working fire.  Upon his arrival, Chief Kramer found a two story middle unit townhouse with heavy fire throughout and already extending to the delta side exposure.  A township general alarm was transmitted bringing in Dist.#2 EBIFC and Dist.#3 BVFC as well as cover companies for the township.  T709(Sommer) arrived and went in service with a 2 1/2" hand line as the aerial was being set up.  E706 (Droz) followed behind laying a supply line to T709.  Captain Drozdowski(751) assumed command until the arrival of Asst. Chief Twomey (750) E706 Also placed a second 2 1/2" hand line in service.  T709 opened its aerial master stream and quickly started making progress on the fire.  A second supply line was layed to T809 which was utilized on the Delta side of the structure.  The fire was placed under control within the hour and crews began an extensive overhaul process.  Several units remained on location assisting the fire prevention bureau.  The fire is still under investigation at this time.  Additional units on location: Car 780, E701, E702, E806, E803, E805, E901, EBPD, EBRS, and Spotswood EMS.

Flag Day

Members assisted the American Legion on Flag Day to properly dispose of unserviceable flags. Each year this ceremony takes place. Through out the year residents drop off old flags so that they can be properly destroyed in accordance with strict regulations over seen by members of the American Legion.

 
Working Fire on Cypress Ln

At 0750Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched to the 2600 building on Cypress Ln. for possible fire.  After receiving multiple calls the alarm was upgraded to a township general response.  Safety Officer Hoover (780) arrived to find a two story end of the row townhouse with heavy fire showing on the second floor and quickly extending to the cockloft.  E707 (Yockman) arrived as first due engine securing a water supply and quickly supplied E706 that was pulling up.  The crew from E706 went in service with a 2 1/2" hand line while E707 stretched a supply line to L801 (Johnson) who was setting up to put their aerial master stream in service.  Captain Sommer (752) arrived on scene assuming command and requesting a RIT Team from Spotswood and station coverage for the township. The crews from E806 & E701 operated multiple hand lines.  R704 & E901 (Newman) worked together to perform a search of adjacent units as E702 secured a second water supply. The fire was placed under control and all units on scene began extensive overhaul.  Crews remained on scene for 4 hours before clearing.  The fire is under investigation by Dist. 1 Fire Prevention.  Other units on location included E803, E902, E71-1, EBPD, East Brunswick OEM, Trans med BLS, and Spotswood EMS.

Engine & Rescue respond to MVA in Spotswood

At 2223Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched to the area of Old Stage Rd & New Brunswick Ave.  Upon arrival Captain Sommer(752) found a two car MVA with the passenger of a pickup truck entrapped following the collision.  Due to the incident being on the Spotswood side of the road, Asst. Chief Twomey(750) requested a response from the Spotswood Fire Dept.  R704(Bassano) & E706(Droz) arrived on scene and began stabilization of the truck.  E71-4(Drako) assisted with patient care and securing power to the vehicle.  The crews quickly removed the passenger door with hydraulic rescue tools and assisted EMS with removing the patient from the vehicle.  Other units on location included E71-1, Spotswood EMS, Monroe EMS, EBRS, RWJ MICU. Bus Fire

At1520Hrs, EBFD#1 was dispatched to the Brunswick Square Mall parking lot near Barnes & Noble for a possible bus fire.  Shortly after Ex- Chief Kramer(790) arrived, confirming all occupants were off of the bus and that it appeared to be an engine compartment fire spreading to the interior.  E707(Bassano) arrived to find a heavy smoke condition and fire showing from the roof of the bus.  The crew from E707 went in service with an 1 3/4" hand line after venting the bus and made a quick knock down.  Captain Sommer(752) arrived shortly after assuming command and requesting an additional engine from East Brunswick Fire Dist. 2.  E806(Anderson) responded in and assisted with overhaul of the bus.  Crews operated for just over an hour.  The fire is under investigation by the Dist 1 Bureau of Fire Prevention.  Additional units on scene E706, T709, Car 780, Trans med BLS, EBPD.  Photos courtesy of Steve Baron.

Transformer Fire

At 1100Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched to 85 Main St, a disabled JCP&L sub station for a transformer fire.  Upon receiving the alarm, Safety Officer Hoover(780) requested JCP&L to respond.  E707(Yockman) went on location confirming the report and stood by until JCP&L was able to confirm that the transformer was disabled.  The fire was quickly knocked down and crews from E707 & T709 cleared within an hour.  The fire is under investigation by the Dist 1 Fire Prevention Bureau. Busy day for Dist 1

Just a few hours after clearing from a working fire on Old Stage Rd. EBFD#1 was dispatched for a possible car fire on Rt 18 near Rues Ln.  Asst. Chief Twomey(750) arrived confirming the report of a working car fire, and giving the corrected location of the capitol bank parking lot on the northbound side of Rt 18.  E701(Sommer) arrived on scene and went in service with an 13/4" hand line. The crew from E706(Lucido) assisted overhaul.  Units operated for 30 minutes before clearing. Working Fire on Old Stage Rd.

At 0935Hrs EBFD#1 was dispatched in the area of Old Stage Rd. & New Brunswick Ave. for a possible house fire.  Asst. Chief Twomey (750) arrived to find a single story house with a fire in the attached garage.   E707 (Casterline) arrived first and went in service with an 1 3/4" hand line.  E701 (Droz) arrived shortly after, securing a water supply for E707 and pulling a second 1 3/4" hand line.After confirming a working fire Chief Twomey requested a R.I.T. Team from the Spotswood Fire Dept. bringing E71-4 (Drako) to the scene.. The fire was quickly knocked and overhauled with no extension to the interior of the home.  Other units on scene  included E706, R704, Car 780 and Chief 71.  Units operated for just under an hour before turning the scene over to District # 1 Fire Prevention.   


 
   
   
Car Vs. Tree

Approximately 1620Hrs, EBFD#1 was dispatched to the area of Old Stage Rd. & Helmetta Blvd for an MVA with entrapment.  Asst. Chief Twomey (750) arrived on Helmetta Blvd to find a single vehicle off the roadway.  Spotswood EMS was already on scene removing one patient and confirming there was another entrapped.  R704 (Bassano) was given the update and upon arrival placed its Hurst rescue tools in service.  E706 (Droz) arrived and assisted with the extrication as well as remove several small trees that were blocking access to the car from the roadway.   Once the extrication was complete including a full roof removal the patient was transported to Robert Wood Johnson hospital by Spotswood EMS & RWJUH MICU.  Units operated on scene just over 30 minutes before clearing.
